Movie: Eat Pray Love
I watched the movie Eat Pray Love only after hearing about in one too many places. I thought it would be an interesting movie and it was. I really enjoyed the first Two Acts. The Movie can be broken down into Three Acts (Eat, Pray, and Love). The first Act then includes the introduction.
Intro: She is a woman struggling with her marriage because she does not love her husband and never really thinks she did love him. I really wish the movie would have taught us more about this part. What is love? Love of something is beyond what pleasure it gives us or our desire to possess something or someone. Her husband shows her his love by never wanting to let go.
Eat: She goes to Italy to learn to live life. I really liked this. It really should have opened Americans' eyes to how we work ourselves to death. We never really relax, even when we go on vacation people talk about all the things they did but it always sounds like work. People are off work on the weekends so they can work on home projects. Eating teaches us to take time and enjoy life. Slow down and live for a little while.
Pray: I did not recognize this lady they worshiped the guru she found in India, but it really got me thinking about religious devotion. People in the middle ages when there were establish monasteries all over the place you could go there and get your focus straightened out. Monks would help to teach you about silence and devotion to God or someone besides yourself. She learns two things. First she learns to forgive or about forgiveness (in a really self centered way). Second she learns to take time and meditate. I really would hope that this is where the Christian could take a lesson. Daily Devotions are important. Time to just stop and think about what God has done for us. The Forgiveness he has given us in his son.
Love: The lesson is love never changes. From the beginning she wanted Love to be something that over powers all other thoughts and foci of life. Love has to be allowed to pull us out of balance. This is not Love. God is Love. God is the exact thing that keeps us in balance or peace. Passions and Desires are what pull us out of Balance.
I really wish the movie would have ended with her recognizing that she really had love the entire time. She just needed to love herself. Her husband loved her. God loved her. But she was rejecting that love for something she desired more. Then she could have returned to New York had children with her husband and taught others how to pray and eat. Thank you.
