Cheer for Victory or Defeat?
This may have to deal with sports more than theology or God talk. But I was at a Volleyball game last night and started to think about whether people cheer for Victory or Defeat. I am a pretty big sports fan and I like to cheer for others. I was told once at a Tennis match that you are not supposed to cheer, when the other player hits a horrible shot or it tips of his racket.
This gets me to the Volleyball game. It was amazing to see how everyone cheers when someone hits a horrible spike, a serve goes into the net, a player falls down missing the ball completely, and so on. The teams would cheer when they got an Ace which makes sense that was a good shot. But then the one team would do a little cheer when they made a mistake.
Do you ever cheer when you make a mistake? Do other people cheer for you or against you when you make a mistake? Most of the time we feel like others cheer over our mistakes. But how often to we actually cheer for other people's victories? When a person is called to Faith all of heaven rejoices over its Victory. When a person becomes a member of your church, do you cheer?
Maybe a better question is when Jesus Dies on the cross, do you cheer? Jesus died for the forgiveness of all our sins. When Jesus dies that is our Victory. When Jesus rises from the dead that is Death and Satan's Defeat. I think we are more often willing to cheer for other people's defeat, than even for our own Victory. Thank you.
