The Movie: God's Not Dead

I wonder how many Christians are in that classroom? I wonder how many Christians have written that down on a piece of paper. The first thing I thought of when I saw the previews to this movie was that I would write: God has died. Maybe the teacher would not accept this. But Christ has died for the forgiveness of my sins. He was dead and is now risen to new life. I missed this part of death and resurrection.

The teacher lists several people who claimed God to be Dead. But some of those people do not believe God is Dead, but God never existed. They do not believe in any such thing as god. (I even find the idea of a lower case "g" indicating false gods, which would make it easy to confess they are dead, for St Paul says idols are nothing and never existed.)

The movie makes some overly obvious connections. Those who are unequally yoked in the movie, place themselves in situations they should never be in.

My favorite parts of the movie are when the Mother confronts her son, and professes a true theology of the cross. Those who suffer in this life, on account of their faith, Saint does not need to attack those whom he already has. Likewise, the possibly more over looked scene of the Father in the stairwell.

I believe that this movie falsely portrays Muslims. The Father, whose daughter has abandoned the faith, must cast her out. It is not the harshness or hatred of her, but his love for her. It is out of Love that the Father casts Adam and Eve out of the garden. It is out of Love that the brother betrays his sister. He desires her soul to saved on the day of the Lord, so St Paul tells us to hand someone over to Satan. The Father weeping in the stair well, weeps for his daughter.

I weep for those who still have confidence in their personal choice to believe. They have blasphemed the power and work of the Holy Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit who calls us to faith. It is the Holy Spirit who cries in our hearts abba Father. It is the Holy Spirit who creates faith in us. (1 Corinthians 12:3)

I still wonder if the Movie does teach that everyone who wrote on that piece of paper "God is Dead" will find themselves in Hell. Thank you.
