Education (Part Three)
In this month of Thanksgiving we can be reminded how we learn from a Tactile or Kinetic way. During the month of Thanksgiving we are supposed to give thanks to God for all we have been given. We give thanks to God by voicing all the wonderful things he has done for us. We can also give thanks by sharing what we have with others. Thus, there is a tactile component of actually doing something.
You can help out at a soup kitchen. You can just provide food to your neighbor. I am sure you can even help with our LWML Mission project for this quarter. Through these service projects we can learn what God has done for us. But this is only one way.
Likewise, through your regular daily activity, God has provided you with various vocations in which you can act out your service and your faith. We can do all kinds of different physical activities that remind us about God.
This time of your it may even be crazy to think you can give thanks to God for your good health by starting to eat right and exercise. (I know I need that kind of reminder.) God has blessed you with a body that does need to be taken care of, just like your home, and our environment. These are all ways we can act out our faith. This allows us opportunities to share the good news of Jesus Christ in our actions.
There are other simple tactile learning exercises. It is not all about service projects and doing things for others. Sometimes it can be running your finger down a page. Lifting up the Hymnal. Standing, sitting, and kneeling in church are tactile ways we can express our faith and learn about the different parts of the church service. Even folding your hands while you pray, closing your eyes, and bowing your head are all tactile ways we learn.
One last thing, the church has long had a tradition of making the sign of the cross. By joining your index-finger, middle-finger, and thumb together you remember the holy Trinity. Starting at your forward and drawing a line down reminds us that the Father sent his Son. Moving from your right shoulder to your left shoulder reminds us how God placed his Holy Spirit into your heart. This simple exercise reminds us about what we believe with regard to the Holy Trinity and what we have received in our Baptism.
