Christ in the OLD Testament

I personally have no problem believing that the second person of the Trinity appeared in the Old Testament in the form of the Angel of the LORD. I also have no problem saying that Jesus was in the form of a man wrestling with Jacob and coming to Abraham (with two Angels). But for those who wish not to think such things. I want to make sure you don't throw everything out.

Jesus was in the Old Testament. John 1 makes it fairly clear that Jesus was with God from the beginning. Some will connect the spoken Word in Genesis 1, as the work of Jesus, even as we confess "through whom all things were made." But there is yet a still more fundamental principle at play.

In Ephesians 1 there is a great Prayer of St Paul. He attributes various activities to various persons of the Trinity. Yet, it takes great tact to parse out every distinction of the 3rd person Masculine Pronoun. Can we apply this tact to the entire Old Testament? Should we apply this to the entire Old Testament? I don't think we should break down every time God, LORD, LORD God, Angel of the LORD, etc. appear in the Old Testament and state which person of the Trinity is at work.

Often times one might expect the Holy Trinity actually works together. But we could apply this in very specific cases. The backside of God saw by Moses could possibly be Jesus' backside. The still small voice Elijah hears could be the Holy Spirit. The Voice on top of Mt Sinai that causes people to tremble is the Father.

But we should NEVER think that God the Father was alone working in the Old Testament. Jesus working on behalf of the Father with the Holy Spirit in the New Testament. The Holy Spirit now solely working through the Church proclaiming Christ. THIS IS MODELISM!

We may have various ideas of who is showing visions to the prophets, and who is appearing in those visions. But the importance is that the Holy Trinity has been together and working together throughout History, thus in both the Old and New Testament and even in the church today.

Is Jesus in the Old Testament? YES! Is Jesus the Burning Bush? Maybe (I think Yes, but could be wrong). Is Jesus the still small voice speaking to Elijah? Maybe (I actually am not sure). The point you should take away from this is when the Scripture says: God, LORD, LORD God, Angel of the LORD, etc. we should probably ask Holy Trinity, Father, Son, or Holy Spirit? Thank you.

PS: Sometimes the answer isn't Jesus but God! Likewise, it may be Jesus instead of God.
