Transgender Bathrooms
I am a little confused of why this is the great issue. I don't think someone who is biologically a Male should use a female lockerrroom or changing room. But this is where I am very confused, and have been for a long time. Why when you go to a clothing store they have separate locations for men and women changing rooms, in addition they have separate stalls for each individual person, yet when you go to a locker room (where you are most likely removing all your clothing and showering) they have communal rooms (and sometimes communal showers).
Whether you are attracted to women or attracted to men, it does not matter do I need to change in front of you? Whether you claim to be a man or a woman, do I need to change in front of you? Or in either case do I have to allow you to change in front of me? I don't care whether you support Transgender, Homosexuality, or even Pedaphilia, do we really need to have men and women Locker rooms?
Why do we have these labels in the first place? I understand that there have been long histories going back to the Roman Bath houses. But no matter who you are, you are sexual object. You are also enticed by flesh of others. And sometimes the most perverse illustration of this is as follows:
If a 40 year old man goes into the men's locker room and removes all his clothing and then wraps himself in a towel in order to enter into a common showering area. Where he removes the towel and washes himself. We have little problem with this, even when that same locker room has boys ranging from ages 5 to 18. Yet, a different 40 year old man under the influence of some kind of drug, decides to remove part of his clothing in order to relieve himself hiding behind a tree, and a boy (between the ages 5 to 18) watches him. The second 40 year old is labeled a sex-offender the rest of his life, while the first may repeat this activity everyday for the rest of his life.
You take the public school situation. You have students that are going through puberty at different stages. You also have the junior high team, junior varsity team, and the Varsity team changing clothes and showering together. I don't know about you, but I see a place of harassment and potential abuse even among ages 12 to 18 year old boys. (I am not even going to mention the idea of Coaches.)
Why don't we have individual shower stalls, individual changing stalls, and individual bathroom stalls (whether just a stool or urinal)? In which you are not allowed outside of these stalls unless proper clothed. You can always grab your clothing from your locker, go to the appropriate stall, and remove your clothing in privacy. If this were the case, you would only need separate locker rooms for separate teams. Thank you.
