Forgiveness (Part Three)
A Forgiven people are called to Forgive. The great mission of the Church is to call sinners to Jesus. A wise man once said, "If you are not a sinner, Jesus is not for you." Jesus came into the world to save sinners. He sought out those who were sick and in need. The sick where brought to him, and even the dead where brought to him. Jesus provided them all with the same simple message. "Your sins are forgiven."
You may have thought it was a different message. You may have thought he told them to get up and walk. You may have thought he said, be healed. But Jesus came to Forgive sins. This was his mission. Jesus goes to the cross as a lamb led to be slaughtered because he is going to make full atonement for your sins.
A Forgiven people are called to Forgive. We will continue to pray every week for those individuals who are sick or dying. We will pray for those who need strength to face the struggles of this life, whatever they may be. But the message we proclaim to all these people is, You are Forgiven.
People, who are facing hardship or death, are looking straight at every sin they have ever committed. We know the wages of Sin is death. We know the debt we owe. We even know that we suffer on account of other people's sins. But remember the blind man was not born blind because of his sin or his parents sin. He was born blind so that God might show his glory. So someone might give him a gift greater than gold or silver, and no I am not talking about healing.
A Forgiven people are called to Forgive. Tell your parents they are forgiven for everything they have ever done wrong. Tell your children they are forgiven for all their disobedience. Tell your spouse he or she is forgiven for all his or her faults. And don't just tell them once, but over and over.
You are a Forgiven people who are called to forgive. There are a lot of things we can do to help people in this life. We can collect food for families in need. We can collect health and hygiene kits. We can collect diapers and other baby items. And I have been amazed at how well our congregation comes together to make people cry, by how big your hearts are. But we have a gift that does not cost us any time, money or even talent, to open our hearts and tell people they are forgiven. Thank you.
