Sent by the Father
The unity of the People of God reflects the message of the people. When you have different denominations and Synods, these cause division in the Church. There have been many approaches over the years to join the people of God together. Here in John 17 we see Jesus praying for the people to be joined together for the sack of the message.
"I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you, Father, are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me." This last phrase is all I have left to talk about. The Church united together for the sack of proclaiming the Gospel. The Gospel message must be of chief importance over all things.
God desires for all people to be saved, thus, he desires the word to be spread. This means people must know and believe that the Father has sent the Son into the World not to condemn the world but to save the World. This is part of the Gospel message. This is a message of grace, and not of my own works but through the death of Christ we are saved. Therefore, let us look at what divides us?
Luther finally was forced to separate from the Roman Church after he could no longer tolerate the Gospel being chained. It was made for the sack of the Gospel being truly taught. Others divided because of different theological reasons. If you look back in your History books and ask why did the Orthodox Church separate from the Roman Church? (Simple answer is Pope.) There are some division that are made for the sack of the Gospel, and others for the sack of Politics.
Jesus wants the people to be one for the sack of the Gospel. This is the message of importance. You are a sinful human being. You need to repent, turn from your wickedness. Christ has died for the forgiveness of all your sins. This may be simple but people struggle with this message and cause divisions. Thank you.
