These and Those as one
Jesus prays in John 17 for the church. Jesus prays for those who will have to continue this ministry after his death. He prays, "I do not ask for these only, but also for those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one, just as you , Father are in me, and I in you, that they also may be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me." This becomes an interesting passage.
Jesus prays for the people to be one. Not only those who heard his message, but those who in turn hear them. Not only these who I speak to but those who will come to believe through their speaking. God is passing this message along through his people. But all of these should be one.
We can thus conclude that that church is one throughout time. We are joined with those who come after us as well as those who come before us. Remember that the Church never stands alone separated from those who will hear your message and those who have passed the message to you. Listen to the past and help the church.
All these should be one just as the Father and the Son are one. This is not just some small connection but a very close relationship. These can not be separated but maybe distinguished. But they are to be so closely joined together that you will never be able to separate them.
