Statistics and thoughts on Abortion

42 Million Abortions per Year Worldwide and 115,000 Abortion per day. In the United States alone we have 1.37 million Abortions per year since 1996 which gives us approximately 3,700 abortions each day. Other Statistics include: 52% of women obtaining abortions in the US are younger than 25 years of age. Teenagers obtain 20% and girls under 15 years of age account for 1.2% of all abortions in the United States. I am not going to talk about which races or whether this takes place in the marital union. I will point out Religious statistics. Women identifying themselves as Protestant obtain 37.4% of all abortions in the US; Catholic women account for 31.3%, Jewish women account for 1.3%, and women with no religious affiliation obtain 23.7% of all abortions in the United States. 18% of all abortions are performed on women who identify themselves as “Born-again/Evangelical.” I will not claim that 100% of abortions are done by non-believing Christians. Now to continue with the numbers, these are important for those who fear looking upon a child which shows or must look at their past sins. 1% of all abortions occur because of rape or incest; 6% of abortions occur because of potential health problems regarding either the mother or child, and 93% of all abortions occur for social reasons (i.e. the child is unwanted or inconvenient). Finally, I will report an estimated 43% of all women will have at least 1 abortion by the time they are 45 years old. 47% of all abortions are performed on women who have had at least one previous abortion. These statistics come from The Center for Bio-Ethical Reform at www.abortion.org/Resources/fastfacts.html.
The Census indicates the current population of the United States at 305,982,934 people. They estimate the world population at approximately 6.8 Billion people. This is important to understand that each year 0.4% of the United States population is murdered. You may not find this staggering or offensive. But to think that within 10 years 4% of our population has been killed. Only 0.0009% of the United States population was murdered in the attacks of 9/11. There have been over six years in Iraq a total of 0.0014% soldiers who are confirmed dead. These are tragic events in our resent history. In the Battle of Gettysburg July 1-3, 1863 of our Population today 0.017%, to be sure that in 3 days 51,112 people fighting for what they believed in died. July 1st-3rd in these United States last year it is estimated 11,100 soldiers died without a fight and with only a simple trust in their mother and country to protect them. The Battle of Spotsylvania in 1864 which lasted from May 8th through May 19th could be closer to me. I was born on May 16th and mourn for those who died on that day. These Soldiers lead by Robert E. Lee and Ulysses S. Grant watched as 27,399 soldiers died over 12 days. Over these same days last year would have the estimated 44,400 blessed innocents died. It is recorded that 83,000 Union Forces and 50,000 Confederate Soldiers engaged in battle and watched as 22.2% of the Union Forces died and 18% of the Confederate Soldiers died. These percentages may seem significant, but are they really that significant. There are 10,799 babies born on any given day in America, of which 1,354 babies are born to teenage mothers. But more importantly is 3,700 abortions occur each day. Thus in our battle there are 14,499 babies fighting to be born each day, and 25.5% of them lose. If you can tell I like to play with numbers.
Now, I want you to recall back to 7th or 8th grade when you were watching after school specials and told 1 out 4 women will be raped in their lifetime. Maybe you remember another one of these percentages. How many people in your class were going to get pregnant before graduation? How people would die in a drunken driving accident? Did any one tell you that 4 out of every ten of the women in your class or women you know will have an abortion before they are 45? Note 45 is estimated to be the age a woman stops being able to have a baby. I guess I never thought about that one. I do like to remind people that 1 out of every 4 women will be raped in their life. But this is not 25% it is 43%. It does not please me either to say the cross over is only 1%. I was told in math class this would not be correct but 4 out of every 10 women will have an abortion and 2.5 out of every 10 women will be raped. These are two of the most traumatic experiences any woman can have. These will happen to roughly 6 out of every 10 women. Please tell me you want to protect and defend 60% of Women in American from horrible memories and regrets.
According to the Women’s groups across the United States I am not supporting women by saying they should carry their children to term. I could blame this on TV and Movies that show us nothing but sex and violence. There is not a television show on that does not have some sexual reference in the first 10 minutes. But I looked back to M*A*S*H and Cheers going back into the 70s and still find sex in every episode. Maybe we can not see it in the movies of the 40s and 50s but they still have the attractive couples getting together to “talk.” I blame culture and ethics. We do not take responsibility for anything anymore. I just wanted to have sex, I did not want to have a kid.
Sorry about that, back to my real point. 305 million people in this country. We have a need for young minds and intelligent thinkers. Let us think back and look at history. We all know of the Greatest Generation from Tom Brokaw. We all have heard stories of the Baby Boomers. Let me tell you about the Baby Killers generation. No I am not talking about Soldiers that were sent over seas to fight a War they nor anyone else believed in. I am talking about the ones that were not sent over seas.
How many of you had a best friend in elementary school? Well I had a best friend in elementary school also. But I have always wondered about that other friend. The one that could have been my best friend died before he ever had a chance to see the world. This friend did not die of cancer; this friend was killed by his parents. I have had friends in my life time who were abused as a child. I have had friends who came from broken homes. I have had friends that some might think should have never been my friends. But it is those other friends whom I never got to know. Now some people who know me may think they benefited a great deal by not knowing me.
Now think if my generation had an extra let’s say 12 million people. We had 12 million more mouths to feed. The United States had 12 million more cars to be driven. 12 million more people to invest in the economy. 12 million more students learning to solve today’s problems. 12 million more people to Vote for our President. 12 million people added to a generation of roughly 40 million making it 20% more helpful. Well, I have to admit just because we add 12 million people does not mean they will all be successful. It does not even mean they would all be able to pay social security for the increase in population over the age of 65. But it could not hurt. Thus, my solution to Social Security stems from those who had Abortions or Fathered an Aborted child should be taken off Social Security thus those reducing it by approximately 40%. Maybe that is a little cruel.
You have thought about your dead Friend. You have thought about Rape and Abortion Victims. You have seen the numbers. You have seen the effect of this War on Terror. You now know hopefully more than you knew before. I still should talk about the Religious issues, but ask someone else. I care about Mothers who lose their children. I care about children who die before they have a chance. I care about those out there like me who should have been aborted but are forced to do something with this life given to them.
