The Bible is an Idol

It is amazing how often you find people attached to their bible. Some people know bible passages and proof texts off the top of their heads. Some people spend a lot of time proving the Bible is true. Many people stand up for the Bible. I love the thought about banning books, if you were going to ban books for sexual content and violence the Bible should be the 1st book banned.

Do you believe in the Bible. I remember the YouTube presidential debate in the last election. They had a video with a young man holding up a King James Bible saying, "Do you believe in this?" I always remember that because the easy answer is yes. I can see it. Seeing is believing. You do not have to prove the Bible is true to believe in it.

There are some people out in the World who worship the Bible. They spend so much time proving it. They have the Bible direct their lives. They worship it and praise the tales and psalms. The Bible should not be worshiped. The Bible can and in some cases has become an Idol. This created thing that people worship. Some even in leave it on their shelf and never touch it because it is too holy. All creation points to its designer.

All creation is supposed to praise His name. Christians worship God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. But most Christians find themselves defending the Bible as if it were the Koran. The Bible is the pure word of God. The Bible also contains what appear to be contradictions and textual errors. But the Word of God is still true.

The Word of God is also more than just what is found in 66 books. The Word of God is that which reveals God to the people. This is not to say every sermon or proclamation is without error. I know some pastors that make mistakes. But the Holy Spirit uses this Word to bring us to faith. Worship not the Book or Picture that shows you God. But worship God who created and redeemed and sanctified His people. Thank you again.

Biblical Marriage

Marriage is defined in Genesis as a man clinging to his wife and the two becoming one flesh. This definition is standardized even in the New Testament by both Jesus and St Paul. Therefore, we have generally said Marriage is defined as one Man and one Woman being joined together in a life long union. Most people think that this Marriage union is created through a man dressed in black and woman dressed in white walking down an aisle to be joined together before some kind of altar. But this is only a ceremony of marriage.
