The Sound of Music

I don't know if you ever watched the movie August Rush, but you should. This movie will open your heart and your mind to Music. It is an amazing journey this child takes to put his family together. August is a child who grows up never knowing his parents. His parents never even knew he was still alive.

August enlightens us. As a child he repeats that he has contact with his parents. He can hear the music. He even tells a Social Worker that he has been in contact with his parents, the Worker asks how. August without doubt or hesitation says he can hear the music. He knows that if he can play the music his parents will come.

When you see his parents both musicians, they seem to have been drawn together by music. They feel the music. August Rush throughout the movie will try to play the music so his parents can find him. August teaches us a very important lesson.

There is music all around us. In the movie he hears the music of wind chimes. August hears the music of wheat Fields. He hears the music of power lines. He hears the sounds all around him drawing him closer to his parents. He even meets his father before either one of them know. Our Father has given us music all around us. Music not on the radio or TV, but Music from the road and engine. The Sound of Music is all around us in the air crying out to God. All of Creation is singing his praises. All around us the sound of Music sings to God our Father. These sounds are calling our family together. Listen to the Music.

The Death of the Holy Innocents

Many people die for what they believe in. Some die for righteous people. But these chosen few die on behalf of the one who will save us all. These children have all sinned and fallen short of the Glory of God. But these children die on account of the Christ Child. Many people have been martyred because they confessed the faith. These children did not stand or even get a chance to stand. They were cut down because they were seen as the threat to King Herod. Rachael mourns for her children. Rachael died giving life to Benjamin near Bethlehem. Rachael now weeps as all the children of this town are slaughtered. But just as Rachael died giving birth to life. These children die to protect the Christ Child who left the town and will die to give all of us life. St Peter once said that he would not allow Christ to go to the cross. Biblical Marriage

Marriage is defined in Genesis as a man clinging to his wife and the two becoming one flesh. This definition is standardized even in the New Testament by both Jesus and St Paul. Therefore, we have generally said Marriage is defined as one Man and one Woman being joined together in a life long union. Most people think that this Marriage union is created through a man dressed in black and woman dressed in white walking down an aisle to be joined together before some kind of altar. But this is only a ceremony of marriage. The Bride and bridegroom are actually joined together through what is known as consummation, or proper sexual relations.  Thus, St Paul can even talk in reference to a marriage bed.
