How early was Christ=God?

I listened to a report the other day on Philippians 2:5-11. This report talked about how early Jesus was equated with God. The phrase in the text itself even makes my skin crawl, "did not consider equality with God something to be grasped." This first makes me think that there is no other god besides the LORD. But in the previous phrase we read, "Who, being in very nature God."

This became interesting to me. The Self-Study Bible even reads, "Something to be forcibly retained--the glory Christ had with the Father before his incarnation. But he did not consider that high position to be something he could not give up." This does not make sense to me either. God does not lose anything during the incarnation. Christ does not stop being Man when he is bodily raised from the dead. Christ is God and Man. This does not mean he has less glory than the Father. This means he can humble himself and dye on the Cross, which wierdly the Father can not do.

This passage just makes my mind do back flips. But the last point I want to make is that this is a quotation. Paul is quoting an earlier source, whether psalm or hymn of the church it should be used as a Spiritual Song but again that is for another time. Thank you.
