The Magnificat (the Song of Mary)
This song would hopefully be sung in our Churches on many occasions. Bu you often do not hear it on Christmas. Mary or Elizabeth (as some might claim) sings this song of great joy. This is not a song giving praise to Mary alone though. This song should be sung by the entire Church. We all have God in our Hears. But Mary does deserve this great Honor.
Blessed art thou and Blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus. Mary is truly the most blessed among women. She can look back to Genesis and see it is her seed, the fruit of her womb, that smashes the serpents head. It is the fulfillment of the Promise given in the Garden that was found in her womb.
Even this blessed spiritual song is not made to be praise when we see Mary and Joseph traveling through Bethlehem. There was great Joy in the Hearts of the First people to sing this blessed Spiritual Song. This is because they were glorifying the LORD. It is the Mighty One who does great things in our life. Mary knew better than others how the power of God works in people's lives.
Mary did you know that your infant child we do such great things. Mary was visited by an Angel who told her all about her child. This child would perform mighty deeds among his people. These will be great signs for the people of Israel. This is the mercy of God the Father came to his people to save them from their sins.
Mary and all of us can sing for great Joy. God takes a humble child and makes him the Savior of Nations. God makes a wilderness Nomad to be the Voice in the Desert. God does take the humble and lowly making them his treasured people.
The Magnificat is not about Mary. This song should be sung by the entire Church. We are his humble servant. He has given his Son to die for us from generation to generation. God lifts us up to new heights. This is a song for all generations who know our Savior. The God/Man is born of a Virgin. He is born to save the people of God. May all our Spirits rejoice for the gift given to His people? He does wondrous things for us. Sing this Song not for the praise of Mary but his glorious Church and all Christians everywhere.
This may not be Christmas celebration but this reminds us of the Celebration of Mary. Mary is the prominent figure of the Narrative. We do not Celebrate Mary but many people if they looking closely this time of year they will see Mary at the Center. Mary is neither the Center of this song nor the Christmas Narrative it is the Christ Child. The Child, who is the Son of God, is the Savior of the Nations. This is the true blessing born of a Virgin. Keep your focus proper.
