Is Christmas a Celebration of Simeon

The Account of Simeon is found only in the Gospel according to St Luke. He recounts for us about the presentation of our LORD. The Holy Family goes up to the Temple. Baby Jesus is taken by a stranger and lifted up as sings some strange song. He then returns the child and tells his mother that the Child is destined for the rising and falling of people in Israel. This Child will be able to reveal other people's thoughts.

This stranger seems to know more about the Christ Child than his own parents. This is just one of the many accounts where the Holy Family treasures these events in their heart to recall them later.

Simeon's story is not completely unique though. Anna the prophetess also comes to give thanks and praise for the Christ Child. There were many people "who were waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem." These people will be able to hear the report of this event. The word will spread throughout Judea. Anna and Simeon are a select few who are recalled to remind us that all of Israel had been awaiting the coming of the Savior.

Still today there are people that are awaiting this glorious event because they did not believe that it already took place. The glory of the LORD was seen by these witnesses and the Holy Family treasures this up so that they may bear witness to us through the Holy Evangelist St Luke.
