The Journey to Jerusalem

The Holy Family is found to Journey to Jerusalem several times. There is no account they stopped in Jerusalem before Mary and Joseph went to Bethlehem. This would not be totally out of Bounds but is not recorded. But what is recorded is that the Family goes to Jerusalem to the Temple. This is for the purification and then later on the Feast of the Passover.

These Journeys take place later after the Birth of the Child Leviticus 12 outlines different lengths of time, 7 days of uncleanness, and 33 days for purifying after a male son. I had generally assumed 8 days for circumcision in the Temple. But most likely 33 days after the birth of Christ.

Then again the Holy Family Journeys to Jerusalem for the Passover when Jesus is Twelve. They lose Jesus in the town because he spends more time in the Temple. This Journey of course we call all recognize happens twelve years after the Birth of Christ.

These are just a few of the Journeys to Jerusalem. One of the other groups that Journey to Jerusalem is the Maji. The Maji complete their Journey to Bethlehem but do make a stop in Jerusalem. This is when the King finds out the Age of the Child. The people of Jerusalem also hear about the Birth of a Child.

One last Journey must be celebrated at the Birth of Christ. Christ's entire life is a Journey to Jerusalem. He will eventually set his eyes toward Jerusalem in order to face his ultimate Death. Jesus will die for the sins of the world in Jerusalem. This is where the Journey of Scripture also finds itself pointing to all Christians.
