The Good Shepherd
Christmas can be a celebration for the Birth of our Good Shepherd. The Good Shepherd is used to reflect a true Shepherd. Sheep follow the Voice of their shepherd. A Good Shepherd takes care of his people at all times. He comes in through the gate.
The Good Shepherd is born to the People of Israel. He is born to his people in the City of David. He is born to lead his people. The Good Shepherd is the focal of the Worship of the Shepherds. He also becomes the focal for all his sheep.
The Sheep of Israel have been lost without a Shepherd since the fall of the lines of the Kings. Since the Kings were not good Shepherds. The People were led into Exile. The Sheep of Israel appear as Sheep without a Shepherd. Jesus comes to be their shepherd and carry them on forever.
The Good Shepherd is also Born the New King of Israel. The one to sit upon David's Throne and Guide his people. The Shepherd takes care of his people and will ultimately lay down his life for the Sheep. This is what a shepherd is supposed to do.
