The Circumcision of our LORD

The Circumcision of our LORD is done in accordance with the Law. It takes place on the eighth day, when the child has his foreskin removed. This was fulfilling the covenant made with Abraham. Abraham was forced to cut off his own foreskin along with his entire household. Isaac is circumcised on the eighth day as the LORD commanded. Jesus not only fulfills scripture but he also is obedient to the Law or command of God.

There is no description of what took place at this event. There is only the account of the event taking place in accordance with the Law. There is no location given as to where the child is circumcised, but one could assume it took place in Bethlehem. It could have also taken place in Jerusalem but they would not be able to go up to the Temple until the time of the Presentation of our LORD.

But the location and conversations are not as important as celebrating that it happened. This text should also not be used to force all children or adults to be circumcised. The point is that God sends us one who fulfills the entire law for us.

Christmas should be included in our celebration of the Circumcision of our LORD because this is thought to be the first spilling of Christ blood to fulfill the Law. Now one can not prove that Christ did not spill blood prior to this event and some could even identify the after birth coming out of Mary including the blood of Christ. This should still be a celebration of Christ the son of God fulfillment of all God commanded us to do.
