Is Christmas a Celebration of Journeys
There are many different journeys that are taken during the Christmas Season. People travel back home to visit their relatives. Joseph and Mary travel to visit their relatives also. People celebrate Journeys to Bethlehem or even a Visit from Mary to see Elizabeth. Zechariah's journey to Jerusalem and back home after his vision in the temple can also be Celebrated.
Most Christmas Pageants will include Mary and Joseph journeying to Bethlehem. They will have them stop off at several different inns before they find a place to stay. But the real celebration is they come to visit their family. The entire family would gather together in the City of David for the Census. There was not enough room in the family house so the young couple was forced to stay in the stables.
At Christmas time there are others who are traveling. You may not want to go to the Airports or to the Train Stations because of all the people trying to get home. People travel through the world in order to come home.
The Son also makes a couple other journeys. There is a Journey taken by the Christ Child up to Jerusalem. There are also some wise guys which travel to Jerusalem and then further on to Bethlehem. But finally there is also a Journey down to Egypt. The Holy Family will then return from the land of Egypt just as the Sons of Israel returned so long ago. All these journeys took place to fulfill the words of the Law.
There are a couple more journeys one could talk about. Christmas is not the only time of year when people travel. Jesus makes his long journey to Jerusalem in order to die on the cross. Jesus then takes his three day journey in the grave. He also some point in time takes a journey to Hell in order to proclaim Victory over Death. Forty days later he makes another journey to the right hand of the Father in Heaven. But all of this starts with a Christmas Journey when the Son of God humbles himself to be born of a Virgin.
There is the full journey of Salvation. This journey should not be celebrated just on Christmas, but everyday of the Year. The full Celebration of Jesus Christ coming into the flesh and Dying for the forgiveness of our Sins. This Journey is a journey we all take together into Everlasting Life when the journey ends with our Resurrection.
